Situated on the southern slopes of the spectacular mountains of Sierra Almijara (2.068m) Los Caballos del Mosquin has all the attractions of this Nature Park in its backyard. For example the summit La Maroma can be reached by a special 2 day trek starting from our stables. The hills and deep valleys around it are laced with tracks ideal for both short and long rides through some of the most glorious nature that southern Spain has to offer. Superb panoramas of land and sea – on clear days you can see the North African coastline with the Rif Mountains – combined with rugged mountain backdrops, abundant vegetation (olive and almond grows at lower altitudes, forests of pine and native oaks interlaced with wild rosemary and lemon thyme higher up) and plenty of running water in rivers, streams and old irrigation channels. The valleys are full of bright pink oleander bushes and colourful flowers blossom everywhere in early summer and autumn. The mountains straddle the border of the Málaga and Granada provinces and 407 sq km of them are under official protection in the Parque Natural de Sierras Almijara, Tejeda y Alhama – which all begins on Las Caballos del Mosquin’s doorstep. |
